When a person is happy, they will use them :) emoticon. On the other hand, people also use the :( emoticon to express sadness after a disappointment. Secondly, people use emoticons to express a particular action. For example, people would use them ;) to mean they are winking.

This expresses a person’s action especially when they are in a situation. Similarly, a person could use :D emoticon to show a big grin. This expresses a person that is bemused by a certain activity or situation. Thirdly, emoticons can be used to show a person is confused about a situation. Particular situations could confuse a friend who may find it hard to express such a scenario. In making it simple, the person would use :-/ emoticon. Fourthly, some people may find themselves in situations that are startling and would find it hard to communicate.

For example, a heartbroken person will find it hard to communicate using words. As such, they find it easy to use emoticons that simply narrate the situation. In such a situation, a person would most likely use the = (( to express the situation. Similarly, astonished people would find it hard to explain a situation. As such, they would find it easy to express the situation through emoticons. When a person is surprised, they have to use the :-O emoticon. This will highlight the situation and send the information that is required.

In addition to this, when people are angry, they do not feel like communicating and keeping to themselves. In such a situation, emoticons come in handy. A person needs to use the angry emoticon that is denoted as X (. Personally, there is a feeling that emoticons have helped ease communication. Some situations are tricky and would need lengthy explanations. However, with the emergence of emoticons, people find it easy to communicate as they use emoticons that are understood by the other person.

Similarly, emoticons are useful in that they shorten emails and messages that are sent via technological devices (Rosentrager, 2008). For example, some messages need a specified number of words. Using emoticons replaces several words in the messages. Most of these emoticons are standard in that they are understood and used all over the world. For example, the sad emoticon is generally used across the world. However, some changes can be made to such emoticons to express a change in the feeling.

For example, some people would prefer to use :(( emoticon to refer to an extremely sad feeling. Similarly, the emoticon for feeling happy is used across the world. Other standard emoticons include a grin, disgust, and a broken heart. However, sometimes it is apparent that some emoticons are unique to the people that are communicating (MobileReference, 2007). For example, some people are not versatile to the fabrications that are made to express a change in their feelings. For example, a very sad emoticon could express a different meaning to the receiver. Emoticons are useful in communication and the expression of feelings. First, they easily express a person’s feelings and the receiver will know how to deal with the situation.
