Different governments have been trying to integrate their education systems but have since been in vain (Bush & Glover, 2003). This is because of the increasing number of enrolments, which institutions of higher learning have been experiencing for the last few years (MacBeath & Dempster, 2009). It has called for more integrated ways of learning and creating conducive environment that ensures developments of students despite their social backgrounds. With the emerging technologies and globalization, some countries such as Ghana have been successful in implementing integration of their universities (Douglas, King & Feller, 2009).

With the increasing number of enrolment from international students due to factors such as search for better education, improved infrastructures, civil war, refugees, among others reason, Ghana has received enrolments from different students from diverse social background which calls for integration to accommodate them (Jreisat, 2004; Michaelowa, 2001; Maassen & Cloete, 2006). 2. Objectives The following are the objectives of this study: To establish factors which promoted integration of Ghanaian universities To understand the role of administration in the integration process Outline challenges towards effecting integration of universities Add knowledge to the existing literatures Give recommendation for future research 3.

Literature review Many literatures support and elaborate on the attempts which Ghanaian universities took under the banner of their administration towards integration. Over the years, universities leadership has been initiating policy options on education, which meets the interest of the diversified students. This has become successful in accommodating students with different needs as policies cater for their diversified needs (Barrow et al. 2006; Day, Harris & Hadfield, 2001). On the same note, Ghanaian university administrators undertake research for successful implementation of government policies.

This has been core in determining on the best ways of relating with the increasing enrolment without interfering with the students as well as governments policies. This action had proved its success in many universities such as university of Ghana and university of education, Winneba (Oduro, 2008; Opare, 1999; Brock-Utne, 2002). University administration coordinates and monitors the implementation of education policies and strategies, which cater for students from backgrounds especially those who needs special care (Zame, Hope & Repress, 2008; Swartzman, 2010).

This may include a group of students such as those with disabilities and requires special attention, international students and these from humble backgrounds as found by Brown and Conrad (2007). The coordination and which can develop a powerful outcome of the results. Besides this, it is efficient in monitoring of these groups of students have proved as a success as they are fully integrated into the systems without any form of discrimination (Leu & Price, 2006: Holtta, & Malkki, 2000). The increasing enrolment of the Ghanaian universities has made the university administrators to develop infrastructures that meet the needs of different students from divergent social backgrounds (Moe, 2003; Sawyerr, 2004).

This has been especially those who are disables through building infrastructure, which are friendly in promoting their movements, education, and communication to enhance comfortability (Government of Ghana,
